You will be taken step by step through the process of making objects from wood on a lathe. Beginning with the safe use of a lathe and woodturning tools, you will learn: sharpening of woodturning tools, basic cuts for spindle turning and bowl turning. You will have a choice of creating beautiful but useful objects that may include: a peppermill, a corkscrew, nut cracker, table leg, a dish a bowl or decorative platter. If you love to work at a lathe or have wanted to try woodturning, this course will provide you with a solid foundation on which you can improve your skills. Wood exercises will be provided as well as a basic set of turning tools, however, you are encouraged to bring your own tools if you have them. A materials fee of $60 is payable to instructor on the first day of class. Wood for your projects can be purchased from the instructor and additional materials to be discussed in class.
