Those Pin Jaws can hold small work like finials or dowels in compression. Keep in mind that it has only one screw per segment consequently the pressure on a spigot should be measured. In expansion those jaws will perform well into a recess 1 inch or larger. Some turners use this to hold a pepper grinder through the bottom hole.
