The adapter sleeves are simply aluminum sleeves that reduce the 3/4" diameter down to the diameter of your tool (i.e. if you have a 5/8" bowl gouge, you will need a bolster and a 5/8" adapter sleeve)
The SB bolster requires any 5 minute 2 part epoxy for semi-permanent blade adhering. Once your blade is glued into the bolster it will be secure and ready to use. There is no need for an allen key to lock or unlock it from your handle, and your blade will fit into any one of the SB Taper-Lock Handles in seconds. To replace the blade heat up the blade to soften the glue, remove, clean and replace. Glue NOT included (we can not correct the link below that says it does).
Bolster only, tool and handle not included.
I took a three day class with Stuart a couple of years ago and I liked his tool handles so much that I have been installing the bolsters on all of my turning tools. Being able to remove the tool from the handle makes them so much easier to sharpen I also have the option of switching to a longer handles when needed.
I am a firm believer in the SB Tools taper lock handle system. I needed an additional bolster for a new box scrapper. I was thrilled that they are still available.
These bolsters are awesome for a quick change in the SB handles. I have removed 12 of my gouges, scrapers, etc and placed them in the SB Bolster. It is a fast and easy process. I appreciate Woodworkers Emporium providing the different adapters with the Bolster. The custom made adapter to fit scraper tangs are awesome. Custom fit and hold really well.
The only problem I have is that for my whole order of SB tools I paid for USPS priority mail and that was not how it was shipped. Don't get me wrong Stuart Batty tools are the best but the shipping department needs some work.
Note: Sorry about that. Our "shipping department" consists of only me, and I was out sick that day. My boss was shipping orders, and he made a few rookie errors. Sorry again for the mistake.
Considering how good the female and handle parts are, having the ability to add more tools into these bolsters is fantastic and considering the machining and finish of these parts, the price is great!
I have begun the switch-over to the Stu Batty system and like it---a lot. Many of my older bowl and spindle gouges are wearing down and out, As they do,. each will be replaced by a handleless gouge inserted in the 'Batty Bolster'.
Space is at a premium in my new shop and this generation of turning tools helps save some wall space. .
