Description

Create perfect spheres every time! The Vermec Medium Sphere Jig can be used on most lathes with a 14" to 20" swing (7" to 10" spindle height)

The vermec sphere jig can be used internally and externally, meaning not only can you create perfect sphere's, you can also use it to hollow bowls. The sphere jig has a fine Adjustment, so it is easy to get the sphere exactly the size you want it. Jig uses a Hunter #2 Cutter.

All Sphere jigs are equipped with an equator finding pointer and fine height adjustment collar which makes set up a breeze, even for the novice turner.

IMPORTANT! Please provide EXACT center height of your lathe spindle (the distance from the top of the bed to the center of the spindle) in the comment box above. Please be as accurate as possible when providing measurements. Not all lathes are created equal, and the exact height of the spindle center varies by manufacturer. For example: the Powermatic 3520B lists a 20" swing, but the spindle center is 10-1/4". A Nova DVR XP lists a 16" swing, but the spindle center is 7.9".

It is absolutely crucial for the top of the cutting blade to be exactly in the center of your spindle. There is roughly 3/8" of upward adjustment, but no downward adjustment. These jigs are customized for each order by Woodworker's Emporium, and if we send you a jig that is even 1/64" too tall, it will not work properly.

The chart below is an approximation of the sphere size you can turn, the diameter will vary slightly depending on the exact spindle height of your lathe.

Center Height   Diameter Range (approx)
175mm (7")   10 - 130mm (3/8" to 5")
200mm (8")   10 - 180mm (3/8" to 7")
250mm (10")   10 - 200mm (3/8" to 8")

    Vermec sphere jig

Posted by Robert Blum on Jul 23rd 2018

Built like a tank, very smooth operation of swing
Modest learning curve to get cam lock handle to lock and not be in the way when turning a sphere. Almost no vibration. Outstanding cutter adjustment.
